  • A few questions

I have a few questions that I was unable to find the answers for

    1) Does each vBulletin board need its own MySQL database?
    2) If 2 forums are up can members from one forum be members of the other as well only registering once?
    3) Is it possible to have 2 forums separate but sharing one common section so both forums can see it?

    Thanks

    Thanks
1.) You do need your own MySQL Database.
2.) Well, if it contains like the same database I guess so, but it would be hard I would think to make it like that while not making the threads copy over to. IT as well would require 2 licenses if different content is posted.
3.) Kind-of answered that in the 2nd question.

What about having a common database for only the member information but having separate databases for the actually forum information? Is this possible?

        Basically you mean...
vb1_ as db prefix for first forum, first license
vb2_ as db prefix for second forum, second license
link the vb1_ and vb2_ member dbs?

This is a already a modification on vBulletin.org if I remember correctly.

I dont recall seeing any modification that would sync users or info between different vb installations. Its on the wish list.

You would also need to take into consideration you would have to pay for 2 licenses. Because each website has different content, if you weren't aware you had to do that.

              2) licence violation 2 forums 2 licences unless in special circumstances read here

You can put that on the "wish list" but i bet vBulletin will never implement something like this why not ? well how would you think yourself ? would you help the pirates to get your product twice (or more) and pay for it only once ? i don't think so

I know that I will require 2 licenses but I just want to be 100% that members from forum A will also be members of forum B and so on.

There is currently no function in vB to do this. That would require modifying the code.
