  • Licensing Question

I have an idea for a new site, but I want to make sure the idea doesn't break any licensing agreements.

I want to place VB forums on my site, but I want to be able to make the categories available from subfolders. An explanation of what I mean could be this...

    Let's say I have Forum1 installed at http://foo.com

Now, I want to display the categories at http://foo.com/cat1/ and http://foo.com/cat2/

Since the forum is installed in the root, and I'm only displaying the categories in the subfolders does this violate the licensing agreement? I did some searching, but couldn't really find anything. I found the tutorials and mods on splitting categories, so I know that is possible, but no one really said whether they had them in different sections of their site.

    Thank you.

This is fine for as long as:
    1) You don't "hide" cat1 or cat2 when people access the root
    2) You don't limit user access based on the entry url (IE: no access to cat2 if entered from cat1 url)
    3) You don't try to brand cat1 and cat2 as two different sites

Methods to achieve the above can be either:
    A) use mod_rewrite or alike to forward /cat1 to forumdisplay.php?f=x, /cat2 to forumdisplay.php?f=y
    B) make a custom java-script redirect in /cat1/index.html to forumdisplay.php?f=x
    or alike.

Fresh installation on the /cat1 or /cat2 url is NOT recommended as it could mess up the cookie sessions etc. and cause problem for your users/moderators.
    Best Regards,
