  • Testing domain

    Hi,

Before implementing VBuleetin on my main domain i want to buy it and test everything on a test domain that i own. Once i am satisfied i intend to install it on my main domain.

On registration i have read that we have to provide a link to where the board will be install. This link will be temporary, maybe few weeks.

Can i change the link to the actual domain when i am ready ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

As long as you don't at any point have 2 instances of vb running on seperate domains, and you update the URL here when you move, I think that's fine.

      You think ?

Thanks, but it's not enough, i want to purchase the soft and i dont want to be stucked on a testing domain and have to buy another license.

I will wait for other answers.

      Thanks,

      Bob

You can update your licensed url at any time.
As for test installation, we do allow one active installation and one test installation. HOWEVER, the test installation must be installed in a password protected directory (using .htaccess/IIS permission/LDAP/Active Directory, etc. to block general public from accessing it) AND in a directory named testvb. So for example:
http://www.testdomain.com is not okay, where as http://www.testdomain.com/testvb/ is okay.

The test domain does not need to be what you have on customer profile for your license (again, this can be edited at any time by you without our intervention, and it is applied instantly). So, for example; if my site is on http://www.mysite.com and my testvb is installed on http://www.testdomain.com/testvb/ it would be perfectly okay.

Thank you, i understand but i have another question.

Do i have to provide a url immediately upon buying or can i wait at a later time ? If i have to provide one right away it would be a link where another board is installed. Is this okay ?

          Thanks,

          Robert

You will have to provide a URL before you can download vB. You can change this URL at a later time.

              another question about this.
I am going to purchase the latest greatest verison of vB, and license it so our organization can use it. We currently have a legal version of an older version running, licensed by the original person who started us up. Can I install vB, on a test machine that is not on the internet, where I would then install all the past messages, and then upload to our domain, or am i simply better off to install it on the machine currently running our message board, and hope there are no glitches in the install??

Certainly. Please feel free to do so; but please note that same limitations for the testvb installation applies... you can do without the password protected directory if it is on intranet though -- IE: http://localhost/testvb | http://myhomeserver/testvb or alike, where its obvious that it is only accessible to your own local network.
