  • Does Searching Posts in Chinese Work?

Does vBulletin supports searching with Chinese characters? I have searched the Forums but couldn't really come to a conclusion if this works. Are there special database tables settings or preprocessing that must be done to allow searching in Chinese? We don't want to buy the Chinese version because we want to get the English support from this site. From my understanding, it's the same software but just a matter of who provides the support?

The Chinese version has several key changes that allows searching in Chinese due to the lack of word spacing.

The ability to search will be very important to us. The problem with the Chinese version is I will be managing vBulletin and I can't read/write Chinese. My co-worker will be the content developer of the site and she can read/write Chinese but will not be able to do the technical management of vBulletin. Would the scenario below potentially work? We buy and install the Chinese version in production. We buy and install the English version in a test internal environment. Then I could get support from this site? Would I be able to download and install the English language pack for the Chinese version so I could select to navigate the site in English? I'm assuming still that both version are fundamentally the same software. Of course we don't want to buy an "extra" version if we can help it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is important to me also. How do I enable Chinese searching on my VBulletin (I have the English version with Chinese language pack)?

This would be a workaround but I am trying to find a more concise answer.

I am sorry but I don't know what the specific changes would be. I just know they are present.

              Okay...

To get the ability to search Chinese, you need to purchase the Chinese version. The English language pack should work with that. The Chinese version has schema changes and code changes that make it incompatible with the version sold here. Moving those changes into the default would cause problems for the majority of our customers at this time.

Hopefully this will help others who have to support Chinese searching like Kahran. My co-worker said that she posted a question on the Chinese site and they said that if we purchase the English version and it does not work for us, we can switch the license over to the Chinese version. Do you know if that is true? But if we do that, we would not be able to get support from this site? What would be my option to be able to get support from this site? Would I need to purchase the Chinese version (or exchange it from the English version) then purchase the English version?

Thanks Wayne! That does answer my question. I need to buy a second license anyway so it's OK for me. I hope I won't have trouble purchasing the Chinese version, they accept the same payment methods as vbulletin.com I think...

Actually, I'm afriad you might. Due to several reasons and agreement limitations, there is no online based credit card processor for vbulletin china. Additionally, Paypal there is only accepting RMB currency. Furthermore, we actually have to reject most offline orders without Chinese address.

If you are going to order a Chinese version, please contact me in advance via private message so I can let the other staff know to keep an eye out for your order; then, place the order after I've informed the other staff, and give me the order id so we can approve it.
                    Best Regards,
                    Andy Huang
