  • 2 Questions before purchasing VB. Simple things need answer to them.

    Hello,

    We are currently thinking of purchasing VB.

    We have 2 question before we make our decision. Please read the site info to find out where we are coming from when asking these questions.

    Site info:
    It will be an education website where teachers, professors, principles, etc. would visit the site and communicate. Though we want to offer them more than just communication. We want to offer them content based on thier state or status(like math teacher=math content, english=english...etc..)

    This is very important to us and it will be our main feature of the site...offering content for teachers for FREE, but we just dont want to throw every state at every teacher. Here are the two questions:

    1- Can we create some type of link in the navbar called "Educational Resources", then somehow we create new pages(prefered) or forums for educational resources that we created, then once the users click on educational resources they get info related to their state/subject no every state/subject?

    2- Is there a plugin or a mod that would be great for us to use in this case, we know that vb has thousands?

    Thank You

    You can do this by using usergroups and forum permissions to show only the forums relevant to that user. vBulletin supports public usergroups where users can select which usergroups that they wish to be part of.

      Thanks for the response.
      I was thinking of that, but I wanted to have them choose a usergroup(required field) at sign up for example (have usergroups be divided into teacher,professor,student,principle, etc.) is that possible? We dont want to restrict areas, but give priority to that information from their specific field (ex. Math) and state (ex. New York). Maybe put that forum first for example.

      Anyway to do this for state?

      here is what we want to do;
      Have them view information related to their state, but also they can browse other things related to other states if they wanted...not necessary restricting them from accessing that info.(for example if the teacher wants to transfer to another state and wants to research info).

        That will require modification. You can ask in the pre sales forum at vBulletin.org to see if there is a modification available which would do this.
