  • Future Invisionfree/vBulletin conversion

    Hello all.

Let me first say that I've been frequent visitor of this, along with many other vBulletin-based message boards for nearly 5 years now. I'm a big fan of the setup, and I've been considering purchasing a license for as long as I can remember.

In the near future I plan on coverting my Invisionfree board to vBulletin. The only problem is, I have absolutly no experience with forum conversions. Whatsoever. Are there any step-by-step instructions that explain this process? Any/every little detail would be more than appreciated. The conversion noob needs help. Thanks a lot.

    Ian.

(Apologies if this is the wrong section)

Yes we have documentation. Please read the online Impex import instructions here:

And of course if you have problems or questions you can get help through these forums or our support ticket system.

The hardest part about this whole process may be wrestling the InvisionFree forum data out of the hands of the people holding it. Info:
      http://invisionfree.com/index.php?p=conversion

You'll need to log into your member area on IF and request a conversion there. They will sell you a copy of your database which can then be imported into vBulletin.

For a Fee, which is quite silly.

How difficult is the conversion and import?

I would think once you have it imported it would be issue to merge in into an existing site forum, just a few updates.

Or is it difficult to get the actual data from them even if you pay?

You just have to get ahold of someone, pay them, and get the data. Once you have that, then you're in the vBulletin support world and you can get help with any problems that arise.

Importing from IPB is one of the most commonly conversions done. After you tell ImpEx where to read the data from, it imports everything. Then you have a lot of little steps to do, which is just lots of button clicking, which do cleanup and migration to cleanup the posts, etc.
