I am a member of a usenet group which is considering our options.
One option we have is to try to create a new moderated usenet group, but the history for such duplicated groups is long and virtually always unsuccessful.
Another option we have is to simply migrate away from the old (usenet) to the new (web based bbs, vBulletin being the best choice). This option appleals to alot of us, but some members of the group - members we really don't want to loose - won't move to a web-bbs system.
IF there were a way to mirror posts from vBulletin to an existing Usenet group (better choice) or to an email list (ok choice), we would be able to have our cake and eat it too.
Note that the mirroring would have some stipulations:
a) everything posted to a vBulletin forum is posted to the usenet group
b) things posted to the usenet group would get put into the vB forum if and only if the post were appropriate (ie. it would have to be reviewed by a moderator first).
note that "b" is fairly easy to do with an email list - I don't know how hard it would be from a non-moderated usenet group.
Whether or not this capability is workable is pretty much the determining factor on whether or not we migrate to vB....
