    Moving from InvisionFree to vBulletin

Is there a FAQ on this on a thread on how to do this? Can it be done and what are the steps that I need to take.

    Thanks,
    Rex

You will need to get a copy of your Invisionfree database first, then restore that db to the server you will run vB on. After this you can use Impex to import that data. Please read the online Impex import instructions here:

So I do or don't need to install IPB 1.3?

No, you just need the database itself.

Here's some relevant info, but as for actually contacting someone at InvisionFree and getting the data from them, that may be only slightly easier than stealing a dragon's egg.

Also, they do charge for backup's. Atleast they did when i got one from them. So if you have a large database/forum, be prepared to give them a large chunk of money to them.

Correctamundo. Any further support questions should be asked in the How Do I or Troubleshooting forums.

rex_b, how well did your move from Invisionfree to vB go?

I ask because I am about to undertake the same task.

How easy was it for you to obtain your Invisionfree database backup? How long did you have to wait after you requested it? Did you use a support ticket to place the backup request?

And finally how well did the existing database import into vB? Did you manage to retain all your members information as well as topics and posts?

I can partly answer this for you Its not actually difficult to get it , but it can take a long time for it to happen.

Mine took about six weeks (to be fair there is just one person who can do the backup for you and they have other tasks)

You request it through the IF admin panel and ask from there (open a ticket), they will probably ask you to confirm you still want it and also the price too. So you need to check the tickets often to check on replies etc.

Theres an excellent (and free) utility called Impex for importing the data too available here after you purchase a vb license.

Do you know roughly how much they charge for the backup to be made?

It usually depends on the size of your database. You'd have to contact them first.

As Gaia said, it depends on the size of the database , As a guide...

Conversion for board with less than 1,000 posts: $10
Conversion for board with less than 5,000 posts: $20
Conversion for board with more than 5,000-10,000 posts: $35
Conversion for board with more than 10,000 posts: Open a sales ticket.

See here for more info http://invisionfree.com/index.php?p=conversion

Note the conversion service (above) is all you need, they will give you a link to download the data. You dont need the transfer service (this is just to import the data into a 1.3 board anyway so no use to you)

                              Hope that helps.
