    Hi

    1. vBulletin costs money because there is paid staff that develope and support it.
    2. An owned license can be used forever, and a leased license can only be used for one year.
    3. Actually, vBulletin is comparatively cheap.

I'd like to add here, VBulletin took me a little bit of time to save up for, but it was well worth it.

Even though there were free options that were somewhat comparative, it is better to make an investment in something you use, at least I think anyway.

While I wouldn't claim it's the best (I haven't tried every software, so I can't really say), I would say it is worth the price, and there are worse things you can spend $180 on. The staff at VB is a real help (along with users here), and issues are usually solved in a fast, but efficient manner. So, you don't pay $180 for just forum software: it also goes for support, newer releases, food on the table for the devs, and the entrance fee into the VB family.

Along with this, if anything is found to have a hole or exploit in the code, the fix usually comes before I even read that there was an exploit! While no software is bullet proof, at least the team is fast on the job of getting it as close as they can.

      -- edit--
Ok ok, $160, not $180. I'll leave it above since the post below wouldn't make sense if I edited away my mistake. But $160, SEE! That's an even better deal, lol.
Hmm, however, with inflation, shouldn't VB cost.. let's see, 5 years now? so... $185.48. SEE, we save money every year, lol
