  • When upgrading.

Hi all, I am about to buy a vbulletin licence again and was wondering if when upgrading from say 3.6 to 3.6.1 is it possible to retain all the hacks and mods that have been installed or if they all need to be reinstalled.

    Hey there,

If you have the ' hacks ' as plugins yes - you can just upgrade and they should remain working.

What if they are code modifications to the actual vbulletin source code?

Obviously, replacing files is part of the upgrade, so unless you re-apply the code modifications, the hacks will not function.

Modifying the source PHP files is really an outmoded way of extending vBulletin.

vB 3 added a Plug-ins system and developer API. You can execute your own PHP code alongside vB's at over 600 places within vB's code. You can use the API to send PM's, create users, etc. without having to touch the database yourself. Plugins are typically XML files you upload thru the control panel. Check out vBulletin.org.
