  • Transfering ezboard to VB - question about host sites

I'm thinking of transferring my long-standing ezboard to a VB board.

I'm not quite sure how the whole host/download VB software thing works.

Do I contract with a host site (i.e., and then purchase the vBulletin software?

Do I get my website name through, or do I get it from somewhere else (i.e., is what I've used in the past), then sign up with to host it, and then sign up with vBulletin to run it?

I'm so lost -- can ya tell?!

Also, my board on ezboard is MBA (membership by approval) so we're pretty private. Can I accomplish a private board using something like -- or is that something I can accomplish by using vBulletin? (Guess I'm asking -- is that a host thing or a software thing?)

Thanks in advance for answering my newbie questions!

You need a host of course, but I suggets getting a domain name directly from one of the name registrars instead of your host. That way you control the domain - not the host.

And yes, you can make vB as private as you want it to dbo.

Here's some additional info I wrote for EZBoard users migrating to vBulletin.
