private forum question

Currently my site is running on phpbb 2.xx. We have several private forums on site. We think it would be in covvient for our members to have to remember passwords for each private forum in addition to thier site login password.

I have been told that we can grant permission for each private forum via user groups on vbulletin, but on phpbb we can grant access to each forum via the user permissions.

Can someone explain how to set permissions per user for private forums?

* You can password-protect forums in vBulletin.
* You can also turn on Access Masks which allows you to set permissions per-user. I think a lot more site admins THINK that they need this than really do.
* Otherwise, everything is handled by usergroups. In vB, you have primary and secondary usergroups. A user can be a Registered user but also be a member of group Adult which might have access to forums 27 and 31. Secondary usergroups can overlap.
