  • Regarding two sites, one license

Apologies if this isn't really a pre-sales question, I wasn't sure where it was appropriate.

I have a vB license for my main site, and just setup a duplicate of it in a password-protected subdomain of my main forum. The copy site is only accessed by me, has only one user, and is just a place that I roll out tests of changes/updates/mods/etc before I post them to my live forum.

In that I am the only user, is this allowed per the license agreement? The forum isn't installed under /testvb, since it makes it a bit more work for me to change everything around when I commit changes to the live site, but it's not accessible from the web whatsoever without a separate (.htaccess/.htpasswd) set of login credentials.

    Thanks in advance.

Since it's not in a 'testvb' directory, there is no way for our Piracy Team to know this is a test copy.

    From the License Agreement:

If you have a valid licence, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our licence verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public.

Thanks for the quick answer Steve. What I'm getting at however is that your piracy team, in fact, nobody but myself (due to the .htaccess restriction) can even access the page at all. It's technically "on the web", but only accessible by myself.

For clarification, I can PM you a link to the forum if you'd like.

Technically, this is against the license agreement and if that site were somehow reported to the Piracy Team then they would have no way of knowing this was a test copy. It doesn't matter if I know the link or nor.

          Roger.

          *grumble*

          I'll move the link.
