XMB conversion + more questions

Thinking of switching from XMB to vbulletin. Two major concerns are seemless transition, and keeping members happy.

I saw a few threads here about how there have been over 20 successful conversions, and that seems like it should go smoothly.

So then the other part of the problem is keeping everyone happy. Some people hate change and would like to keep the board the way it is. Is there a way to allow for the members to click on like a "choose classic view" and still have it function the way it does now?

What do you mean classic view? You mean having the username and stuff to the left instead on top? If that's it, you have two ways of approaching it

You could use the admincp and apply that globally or make it a userbased option

There is no vBulletin style available that mimics the XMB style.

What i meant by classis is somethign that the member can click to swith the view of the forums back to the XMB.

What do i tell my partners about those long time members who dont want to see the board change? I want to, my partners want to (if there isnt a riot), but dunno what to tell them.



Also, when it converts to vbulletin, are the threads converted just like if you were to create a new one? Like if the old thread had a title "I like eggs" and 5 posts, would it convert the same way?

What about members user names, post count (even though it only says over 100 on xmb), and profiles?

Unfortunately there's no way to revert back to XMB. It's totally different software. It's like trying to switch back from Windows XP to Windows 95....physically impossible.

I can't say why you should change or not. Personally there seems to be a bit of doubt on your partner's part/lack of trust as well, so whatever I say or you say could only anger them further.

As for the import procedure, see XMB (1.9) importer. All the details you need to know are there.

You can, with extensive template modifications, transform a style on your vBulletin forum to mimick the XMB layout as closely as possible - Anyone with a keen enough eye will immediately tell it is not an XMB board, but those users who are happy enough to accept a familiar layout and styleset will happily get along with a modified vBulletin style

Anything is possible, but it will take time and undoubtedly user criticism until you reach a point at which they will accept the style
