[How Do I?] Giving Away a vB License

    Hello,

Someone has offered to give me a vBulletin license and I have 3 questions:

I have read on these very forums that the owner must send a request to [email protected] to transfer the license:

What information does vBulletin need of me?

Could I potentially leave the license in his name and still install the board on my site?

If yes, can I still receive support on these forums?

Well, you could, but you'd be unable to download vB yourself or any updates yourself, so you'd need to have him give you the files... which would be against the lisence. Hmm. I guess in mosts cases you can't. Maybe if the owner of the lisence installed the files... =/ I'll let a staff member answer this as well. =P

If the owner of the lisence enters your e-mail address in the members area, you will be able to recive support on any vB forums, however, you will not be able to use the official ticket system, which is the best way to get quick, official responces, as that's done through the member area.

*insert obligatory "I'm not staff, don't trust this" statement*

The same info they would need in a vBulletin license order process done on http://vbulletin.com/order, minus the payment info

Could I potentially leave the license in his name and still install the board on my site?
      Yes, but:
      1. He'd have to give you access to his Member's Area account, which is illegal AND not safe (No offense)
      2. It'd be against the license agreement for him to give you the files
So, you're better off just getting it transfered to your own account

If yes, can I still receive support on these forums?
Only if your e-mail address is in the Priority Support section of the Member's Area

After the transfer has been put though you will get emailed and you should follow the instructions.

          Hmm, thank TCM.

Does staff ever stop by and answer these inquiries?

              Hi there,

Thank you for your interest in the vBulletin forum software, and I am happy you found someone who is willing to give away his or her license to you.

Someone has offered to give me a vBulletin license and I have 3 questions
Please be aware of the risks! If they give you a license you should make sure you get a unique new password set for it. And that the user is no longer running any instances of that license on any site. Multiple instances might result in your license being set inactive for breaking our license agreement.

We have a license transfer policy, just giving the license to you won't work. You have to get the license owner to start a new support ticket through the members area. After which we will provide you and the license holder with our transfer license policy and the risks. Also, we will confirm with the license holder the request is real and initiate the transfer after reviewing the request.

I have read on these very forums that the owner must send a request to [email protected] to transfer the license
We prefer a new support ticket through the members area: http://members.vbulletin.com/ from the license holder.

What information does vBulletin need of me?
Every detail we usually get when someone purchases the license. Full name, full address, valid and working email address, phone number, country, .. stuff like that.

We will ask the license holder to provide us those details. So he or she can contact you with the required requested information. (Or we might mail you)

Could I potentially leave the license in his name and still install the board on my site?
Yes, but you run the risk of that person downloading for own use, which isn't allowed. We prefer if you get your own customer account.

If yes, can I still receive support on these forums?
If you get your own customer details you can get priority support on our official forums yes.

Let us know if you require any further information.
