PhpBB is a GPL licensed forum software, you can download and use it freely but vBulletin is a paid forum software and probably the best.

Hi there,
Thank you for your interest in the vBulletin forum software and for checking up on the various options you can choose from during purchase. (They're also available after purchase).
The branding-free option is optional and can be purchased at any time, during or after purchase, and allows you to remove the 'copyright' and 'powered by vBulletin' from the templates. This is a one time fee per license.
You're not allowed to strip the copyright from the actual source code files, or rebrand the software as if you've made it yourself.
No, vBulletin forum software is a product made by Jelsoft and not the phpBB group (or any other third party forum software).
If you have any further questions do not hesitate to ask. And if you want to try out vBulletin for free, for 24 hours, you're invited to request your own demo here: http://www.vBulletin.com/admindemo/
We're looking forward to your purchase.
All the best,

All the best,
Am I right to assume that no other branding on your fourm is required (other than the bolded above)?
I'm free to have my own favicon and there is no vBulletin graphic required anywhere?Last edited by freestyle; Wed 22 Jun '05, 1:16pm....

Nope, the copyright must be present and readable on all pages, but otherwise nothing is required.

Yes, you can replace all the vBulletin images with your own images, on both the branded and branded-free versions.
No, you can't rebrand the images to make it appear as your own forum software (for example reselling or something like that). ie: Powered by IanBoard v3.2.3.1
The branding free of course doesn't require the copyright in the footer or title.
