1 forum, multiple portals with independent domains.
In order that my office mates can be able to update the pages I maintain for work, I've structured them so that the page contents are stored in posts. They edit the posts with the WYSIWYG editor, and I don't have to pull my hair out (as much). Our main business has a registered copy of vbulletin and forums (though they are very quiet).
We have recently added a site for a subsidiary company. It has it's own domain, but no forums (Nor are there any plans to add any). Still, for the convenience of my office mates I've set up a portal system that allows them to edit the pages by editting certain posts on a hidden forum of the main site.
Now, is there a problem with this approach from a licensing standpoint?
AFAIK, it's only a problem if you install more than one copy using the same forum license. Since only one copy is installed in your case, you don't have anything to worry about IMO.
I recently imported a VB5 forum over to VBCloud hosting. The forum was several years old with a lot of content. This past update? (we've only been on it a month or so) the forum software just pruned out...
