Template colours/ fonts any easier than PhpBB

Im currently running a PhpBB board ( and am looking to convert to VB and am impressed with the stock features in VB against PhpBB which require the application of a considerable number of hacks to even begin to approach VB. Given the inevitable upgrades and critical security releases of which PhpBB seems to have had more than its share of late creates some problems.

That is that New releases and critical patches creates a big maintainence overhead with a hacked board, so my driver for looking at converting is to stick with something that is fully functional in basic or vanilla form removing the barrier to quick and easy upgrade completely.

Modifying the colours on the stock template of PhpBB (Subsilver) is candidly one hell of a mission requiring a good deal of knowledge and is more of a brain obstacle than I wish to climb. Other than the logo I decided to leave it stock. This brings me onto the thrust of my question:
    1. On VB is changing the specific colours on the stock template – presumably this one any easier than with PhpBB, if so how so?
    2. Are the colours stored as values in a database with a function to change them rather than embedded in code?

    1. I believe so, However I have been working with the system a very long time. The color manager interface is mostly GUI based.

    2. STored in the database, and output as CSS, either inline(default) or as an external CSS file.

You can checkout the style manager in the AdminDemo
