vBulletin v.s. Invision Power Board

I'm prettysure I heard someone from the vB team saying that vB 3.6's admincp was going to be tweaked.

vBulletin doesn't use iframes either, they are plain and simple frames.

They get the job done, and personally, i know tons of people who can barely stand using mambo/joomla and detest its admincp.

I was specificly asking for tabs, and I cannot stand Joomla/Mambo on any level, I don't understand why its so danged popular when its so horrible :/

If the developers decide to the tabbed admin cp then fanboys will say that vBulletin is copying from IPB even though IPB copied from UBB.

That will ALWAYS happen. ALWAYS. I dunno if you were around for the IPB 2.1/VB 3.5 fiasco. But thats a case in point. And with VB now adding multi-quote....yeah...it's like that. But on the IPB forums people request VB features just as much as people on the VB forums request IPB features. Some things I like about VB more than IPB and vice versa. It really doesnt make one better than another. I prefer IPB's CSS layout. It seems to allow for much more flexibility and dynamic skins and looks/feels. The VB table thing is limiting IMO. Can you do more with silly putty...or a box?

While some people don't mind scrolling down pages and pages of the VB admincp load with mod control panels that seem randomly placed and intermixed with the normal VB admin cp, I don't. Scrolling down a little is one thing. But the VB admin cp for me has been a completely different beast. And the more mods/VB default options that get added...generally the worse it will get and has been getting. Very unprofessional IMO.

What I see is that some people just dont like change. But like anything if they are forced to change, sure they may grumble at first...but alot of the time they come back and say things like, "Wow. At first I didnt like the new admin cp layout at all. But now that I've gotten to spend some time with it, I really love it! Very intuitive. Everything is where you would expect it to be. Plug-in control panels are better controlled now, and overall everything is much much nicer, cleaner, and more professional. Thank you!".

I dont care if its a tabbed interface, an Xbox 360 style blade interface, etc. As long as it cleans things up, organizes things better, and just looks and feels more professional and not so amatuerish. Just my opinion.

I agree our admin panel could do with some tidying but I'm not too sure about the tabbed approach they have taken.

I'd like something more like Firefox where the top panel is buttons and clicking that causes other parts to load. Or maybe something like the Firefox 1.0.x view where the left frame as images and changes the right hand frame.

IPB 2.1 (and 2.2).

They have ALL of their products tied into it using the component system which is under a tab. However products that have their own admin cp can because of the complexity and size of the product can still be tied to IPB under 1 one of current tabs. Anyone that has ever spent time with the admin cp with IPB 2.1 knows this.

Its either that or scroll down 3+ pages in a mish mash of control panels from VB and various mods that have no rhyme and reason for where they are at.

I've spent time in IPB's 2.1.x admincp and to be honest I'm glad you liked it but everything is an opinion really since in my opinion IPB's admin interface is over complicating a simple admin interface that vbulletin has. I found using the IPB interface quite cumbersome when navigating and in general I prefer the way vbulletin has done things throughout the forum.

One such example being the inline moderation feature in vbulletin vs ipb of course it would be a matter of opinion but in my opinion vbulletins version is better because it allows me to moderate faster with a dhtml drop down that has some quick options like "select all" , "select closed".

I mean out of curiosity I did try to convert a vbulletin backup over to IPB and in my opinion I just couldn't move over.
Its fair to say IPB has some great features but so does vBulletin and the features that are shared are done better in my opinion with vBulletin.

So in reply to the original threads question I would say because everyone is self opinionated just go and spend some time with both forum softwares.
I think both vBulletin and IPB have admin demo's

I owned an IPB license, I didn't really like IPB's rich text editor also the layout was bothering me. So I made a switch to vBulletin, I found faster support, better software all together, and installed mods by there product installer was an ease. I wont write a long story about it, my personal tastes are vBulletin over IPB.

I know (although I dont know why) its turned off by default. Overall though from my experiences with both VB and IPB, the Rich Text Editor worked the same for both.
