Adding to those comments from ManagerJosh, I have used both and now prefer Vbulletin over IPB .

    Learnt from experience.

And phpBB is even ahead of IPB!

vB is the standard in forum software as we all know!

I went with vBulletin not because of the software, but because of the community that supports it. From the looks, in the long term, buying a vBulletin owned liscsense is the best investment you can ever make.

            Limitations

What are the limitations of Invison. Does it allow the customiztion as Vboard?

Not really :P But I like it :P The more important stuff would be the awsome skinning sytem, the features and how customizable it it.

I was using IPB for two years and now switched to vB.
                    What can be said:

                    Speed:
vB is considerably slower than IPB... unfortunately

                    Support:
vB's support is ULTIMATE! I haven't been dealing with IPB support team, but I really don't think they can match vB.

                    Skins and mods:
Default (www.vbulletintemlates.com) free skin sharing site suxx, but you can find some cool free skins on www.vbdesigns.de (German site)
                    IPB has the same problems.

                    Administration:
Different approach. I think vB has more intuitive ACP.

                    Moderation:
I was unable to find out how to delete multiple selected posts or threads simultaneously like in IPB. This feature should be added (if it is not present)
Without this feature moderation becomes boring.

                    Modification:
I think vB is better and simplier to modify. Still it is also a questionable thing.

                    Price:
owned vB license is cheaper than IPB's

Still there are some penalties in switching to vB, I think there are more advantages.

Depends on which feature you have turned on/off in VB, the speed is about the same in my experience.

I've never seen vBulletin be "slower" persay. There are alot of factors that play into how fastly a forum is displayed, including server load, server bandwithload, your own bandwith. How graphic heavy your site is ect ect.

The day vB3 was released in beta, and again when it was gold, the server was swapmed, and the load barely budged

It really depends on how things are perceived. Functionality for end-users are generally the same, but functionality for administrators are far different from what I've observed.

I personally feel vBulletin has several major advantages in terms features, control, and accessibility.

IPB has its strengths as well like in terms of inline moderation and also some of the permissions settings per usergroup.

But when you weigh all the pros and cons, I think vBulletin has always shown itself true when it comes to meeting the average administrators' needs.

A few members have picked up on vB been slightly slower than IPB since I converted.
My answer is always the same.....it may be slightly slower, but it's still a damn site quicker than you can type!

If I load a default install of IPB and a default install of vB onto my server, the vB is slightly slower. Not by much. What I do notice is that as the database gets bigger vB does seem to slow down perceptibly, although again it's not such that an average user would notice, and if it was on a dedicated server it would be even less noticeable.

(My current production site is not a fair example as I've made it slightly more graphically intensive than a default vB)

However, the difference really is tiny, and I'm afraid vB beats Invision on pretty much every other front, so it'll be vB til I die for me.
