    Questions on install time, etc.

I am considering purchasing vbulletin later today. I have a couple of questions prior to my purchase.

I currently have a phpBB forum in place with around 70 user, 250 threads. Not a huge community. My host uses cpanel.

If I purchase the option to have the board installed how long does it take and what information is required from me? Also, what support or warranty (if any) is provided that it will work?

Also, I am curios what support is available to transfer users/threads into vbulletin? Support meaning I am about an idiot when it comes to this database stuff and might ask 3 zillion questions. I know there is a converter on this site with directions.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated, I would rather switch while my forum is still new and small. Thanks

I can't tell you how long the installation will take, but it surely won't take very long if one of the people doing these installations is online.

I also don't think the installation includes importing your existing data, but of course you have free support on these forums.

To have vBulletin installed, Jelsoft staff will need to know your ftp details as well as the details to a mysql database and a user with access to that database.
You're sure to be informed of what will be needed if you chose this option.

Not to take away money from Jelsoft, installation and importing is easy!
Plus if you run into a question, generally it has been asked before and you can find the answer even at 3:00 am. I've installed 2 boards importing from phpBB. Plus by doing it yourself you will have a better understanding how to upgrade by yourself.

Well, its here. I have downloaded it, edited the config file, created a database and have waited 2 hours trying to upload it.

2+ hours. It’s my box I think, or my connection, not the program. This is like watching snow melt off your roof in antartica….

To get vB support on these forums you first need to be a licensed customer and register for Priority Forum Support. To do this, please go here:

...and enter your email address in one of the boxes. You'll need to have your customer number and password to access the page.

If you still have problems after doing this, send an email to [email protected]. Please include your user name, the email address you registered with and your customer number so we can fix the problem.

Once you've done this, please post in the appropriate support forum for your version.

The actual installation is very quick, my problems started when I needed to have converted all my members info etc from old forum which was on phpbb. But thanks to Steve, Zachary in here and Joey at my host, my forum is now up and running. The manual is both extensive and detailed, going to take some learning! vBulletin is by far a superior forum package and, coupled with the support, well worth paying the $160.
