    magic_quotes_gpc

I ran vb_test to check if my site was able to run vBulletin, and I got the message "magic_quote_gpc should be off for optimal performance, ask your host to change this in php.ini".

My hosts inform me that they are unable to do this. So what is the effect of not implementing this advice? What precisely is the non-optimal performance that I'll get?

If won't make any noticeable difference from what I've seen.

Before posting the above message, I did a search for "magic_quotes_gpc" which found nothing. However, once I posted, several threads appeared as being related (and I've now found my answer). But is this a bug within the vBulletin search routine? Or did I mistype a letter?

So can I now. I must have mistyped something. I should have checked again before firing off the message. Sorry.
