Moving from phpBB 2.0.11 to vBulletin

    Hello Everyone!

First of all my complements to the writers of vBulletin. We have been looking around for forums software for a good while and this is the software that we have been the most impressed with.

I work for a major hosting company and we are using phpBB for our company forums. It is version 2.0.11. For reasons that most of you can guess, we have decided to upgrade our forums software. We have been looking a lot at vBulletin and have been extremely impressed with it thus far. Our company forums are extremely large and we have a very large number of registered users as well as threads. The biggest thing that we are worried about is if any of our users are going to lose any data. Their data being private messages, posts, etc.

The main points of concern from upgrading from phpBB 2.0.11 to vBulletin are:

    1) Will the automated upgrade process still work, given the enormous size of our database / forums?

    2) Will the users be able to keep their private messages, posts, and other personal data?

    3) In going forward with this transition, are there any bugs that the users will notice?

    4) Besides the obvious look and feel, are there any major differences that the users are going to run into?

Thank you in advance for your responses. We hope to purchase this software very soon and become members of this great community.

1-3) The best source of info on the phpBB importer is here:

    4) That's hard for me to say. I believe there are many more features in vB that if enabled your users will notice and like. However to be honest I haven't really used a phpBB forum. Hopefully someone with experience in moving to vB from phpBB will chime in with their experiences.
