  • vBulletin + LDAP + homepages

    Hi vBulletin community,

I am exploring the option of purchasing vBulletin for a client. He is interested in using it 'bundled' with a running Active Directory setup.

I am wondering if there is any script/plugin/mod that allows LDAP connectivity to vBulletin. Such is necessary so vBulletin runs only with the users from the directory and is updated automatically whenever AD membership changes.

Furthermore, would there be any available document management mod? I would be interested in allowing users to have some kind of homepage connected to the board on which they can 'share' their files, documents, etc. Or, maybe, ideas for a different setup?

    Thank you.

There is no official plugin to do this. I'm not sure if there's an unoffical one but the place to ask would be at vbulletin.org.

The latter question is a bit fuzzy. However it sounds like this may require separate license for each 'homepage'. From the license agreement:

vBulletin license grants you the right to run one instance (a single installation) of the Software on one web server and one web site for each license purchased. Each license may power one instance of the Software on one domain. For each installed instance of the Software, a separate license is required. Modifications to the software or database to circumvent the one-license-one-board rule are prohibited.

Well, I only meant something of a more extended profile page with links to user documents or something of that sort. Surely I would be into serious financial trouble if I would have to pay the costs of a licence multiplied by the total number of AD users I will ask at vbulletin.org as well. Thanks for your input.

This requires modifying the code. You can try asking for help with this over at vbulletin.org.
