I am new to messageboards, I have a site for an online flight sim squad (www.virtualcheckertails.com). I am using a messageboard that is hosted by the company. I am interested in looking into VBulletin, but being green to all of this, what is it that I need to know or have to do this.

You can install vBulletin on your web host account if it understands PHP and you have access to one mysql database. If you already run a forum, what forum is it? We might have an importer for it so you can keep your users/threads/posts/etc.
If you want to have vBulletin you can make a purchase here: http://www.vBulletin.com/order/

You need a server with php, and mySQL. You can test your server to see if it supports vBulletin by going to this thread:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103980
And downloading vb_test.php, upload this file to your web-server and call it via your browser as so:
www.mydomain.com/vb_test.php (asuming you uploaded it to the root html directory).
