  • Wildcard subdomains

I already have a vB license, but this just seemed like the best place to post this. I have wildcard DNS setup so visitors can access my site from any subdomain.

People that go to http://anything-here.mydomain.com/forum/ see the exact same thing as http://www.mydomain.com/forum/

Is it 'legal' to do this? Its one installation of vB, but people will not always be accessing the forum from the exact url that I specified in the member's area.

    Hi there,

Yes, this is legal. As long as it is once instance of vBulletin and the domains and/or subdomains are just redirects/aliases, this isn't a problem.

OK, I thought so, but just wanted to make sure "tracking" wouldn't pick it up. Thanks

As long as the initial site is setup properly in the members' area on vbulletin.com it shouldn't be a problem. If someone reports the subdomains and they come to check it out, you can inform them they are aliases pointing to the legal license, and provide the license details. They will check that up and confirm it and there won't be an issue.
