magic_quotes_gpc a must?

My host will not turn magic_quotes_gpc off. Will vBulletin 3 run even with them on?

Yes, vBulletin uses a mechanism to check and see if magic_quotes_gpc is on or off and it appropriately strips slashes when necessary.

(My old host wouldn't turn it off, either; but it ran just fine )

It will run but there is a small performance cost as it has to loop through all input and remove the extra slashes.
