  • This is too blatant, I'm angry =/

    www.mybboard.com

The forums, honestly, made me think it was vB3 for a second. They've copied features, style, etc. I know it's not a rip but it's a blatant imitation...I don't know what can be done about things like this, but it's practically making fun of vB3 by being free...and looking exactly the same...

    edit:

    Their adminCP has this text:

You are either not a valid administrator or have not logged in

Direct match to vB's text in the adminCP...

It's as if they just took a vBulletin and modified it, they didn't even create it themselves...

So, if a webmaster adds a form to their website they should be hanged? After all... forms would not be their original creation. Or perhaps is it illegal to add a logo in top left corner, since so many people did it before you?

Seriously.... there are practically no simularities between vb3 and mybboard. Sure it uses a simular layout in some places, but see first paragraph.

It looks fine to me. All forum templates nowadays look the same, and that's a completely common statement...

They are using Infopop's images for the forum status indicators...

          Look at forumhome footer.
          Forumdisplay footer.
          Postbit.
          Wording in several places.

My point is it seems as if they've taken a vB and modified it, not created theirs from scratch.

Well, it does look a bit suspicious.

I have to agree with N9ne on this one, the board is the closest to vbulletin i've ever seen.
the file names are the same, postbits, getinfo, etc are the same.
you can't say this doesn't look like the getinfo here

look at the log in screen exactly the same wording as vbulletin.

              edit: changed fusion to n9ne.

Why doesn't someone download it and compare the code?

Sometimes there's only one good way to do something, and if there's a different way to do it it's either too complicated or too unorthodox and would be too confusing. I don't see how it could be compared to vBulletin except in some of the way the style is laid out. There in fact seems to be more style based off of Invision Board than vBulletin. Take a look at the user CP for example.

A lot of the functionality is different too. The report post, the go to last post link, it looks like they're building the search engine page from scratch because they've not got working find member's posts links, and typing in search.php directly on the URL takes you to a non-functional search page that looks to be pretty beefy with options.

Hey, I might just try this thing out when it arrives.

It looks about as close to vBulletin 3.0 as the current phpBB and Invision Board do.

It has a few similar features like quick reply but there is not even a standard toolbar for editing posts, let alone a WYWISG editor. The Member's List and Calendar are no where near as close. There is no indication of sub-forums. There is a lot more that is missing.

I think any similarities are superficial.

The file naming conventions are the same, even the URL arguments (except userid is replaced with uid, threadid is replaced with tid, etc.). Of course that means nothing if the source code is completely different.
