I clicked on the Today's Posts as a guest, not logged in and got the no permissions text.

Why can't guests use the Today's Posts function?

    vBulletin 1.0-4.2.1 "Today's Posts" link:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/search.php?do=getdaily

    vBulletin 5 "Today's Posts" link:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/searc...ssage%22%5D%7D

A JSONblob just to get a list of posts? Seriously? Ever heard of $_GET?

Again this just points to some project manager who thought that vBulletin should be a Javascript/AJAX app through-and-through and use the absolute minimum amount of PHP to make it work. At this point, PHP is just being used as a dumb delivery system for megabytes of Javascript. Never mind the fact that Javascript will NEVER execute anywhere near as fast as PHP does. The amount of reinventing of the wheel going on here is unbelievable.

I've enabled this functionality for guest visitors. However if it proves to be a problem, I may have to disable it again.

Cool, the functionality exists and it is admin/mod choice. I will want to try this on my site as soon as it is ready. I like the idea having guest posts but agreed, if it proves a problem.

Today's Posts is only meaningful for Guests. Registered Users use "New Posts" or whatever it's called now and would never need to use Today's Posts.

            Wayne,

Thanks for turning it back on.

I actually use Today's Posts over New Posts. New Posts is only since the last visit in vBulletin 5 currently. That is not really useful when I have several visits and sessions throughout the day.

Wait. vBulletin 5 does not have Database Read Marking?

It does... The New Posts search isn't set up that way currently though. Work needs to be done there still.

I completely disagree, even in vB4 and vB3. I have always had Today's Posts exposed in the UI when logged in. I like to be able to find threads I have read as well as onces I haven't read. I have both Today's Posts and New Posts available to members (and nowadays the Activity stream as well).

I sent a VM today and that appeared in todays posts. I expect this is being fixed.

Kind of as designed... Want something private then send a private message.

I get the privacy and visitor message thing but it does look rather strange without its title.

Oh, come on, Wayne, this can't seriously be 'as designed'.

A VM is not a forum post, so it shouldn't appear under 'Forums > Today's Posts', and it certainly shouldn't appear without a title, to claim otherwise is totally bonkers.

OK, you said 'Kind of as designed', which I guess we should translate from vB-speak into English as, 'Blimey, that's another cock-up'.
