Hello, why do we have to press a button to enable the quick reply box?
    Sometimes it can rather annoying.

That's the default, unfortunately (I believe), it also means that other view modes should theoretically work. Though I think most people just click a random quick reply button so it probably wouldn't make much sense

I find it very irritating, I dont actually know anyone who uses the other views - I usually just end up clicking the last post, as its the only one on view (unless Im quoting).

I wish they can change it to something like facebook commenting form; you click a text box and it turns to a <textarea>.

So instead of a click and ending up in the textbox
you rather click on a link and end up in a textbox

I'd say that's just as bad... having something ready for there is the best... and why does my bedroom smell of popcorn? back to topic though...

If only there was a checkbox in vBulletin Settings to allow Quick Reply without choosing what message you are replying to first. Oh wait...

The button just activates the box, it doesn't given an element to which post you are replying to, but that's what the quote's there for.

It does actually...it links the reply to a specific post, rather than just generically to the trhead, even if there's no quote selected.

You can see this by viewing this thread in Threaded View. You'll see that this post is a direct reply to yours, even though there's no quote. This would be the case even if there were other posts in between in the standard "linear" view.

I agree though, nobody uses threaded view and I have always had click for QR switched off. I do understand its intended function though.

True, I forgot about threaded view, for me, it's the worst thing anyone can use in a forum software.

                      It does not matter though.

either you click once after reading the post, and end up automatically in the textarea.
Or you scroll down and click in the textarea to focus it.

+1 click, .. at least the first method organizes which reply is to what post.

I know many who use threaded view. Just because we don't use it doesn't mean nobody else does.
