  • Need help with accessing adminCP on vBulletin 3.7.0 beta 6

I'm helping someone move their 3.7.0 beta 6 to another host, and upgrading it to 3.8.7.

I managed to backup their database, and then upload it to a virtual PC running WAMPServer. I then copied all their vB files onto my virtual PC (VMWare, fwiw). After installing PHP 5.2.x, I've got the board working, but when I go to the admincp, type in my login info, and then press LOG IN, it redirects me back to the admincp login form. I've tried clearing the cookies and resetting the web server and database server.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Instructions for moving servers are in the online manual here:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/moving_servers

Note: The only reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeouts errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here:

    Backup:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup

    Restore:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

P.S. If you do not have telnet or SSH access, some people have reported success with these scripts:

    MySQLDumper:
    http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

    MySQLHotxcopy:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...t=mysqlhotcopy

    Bigdump (restore only):

Thanks, I'll go through the documentation. FWIW, I did use shell access to run a mySQL backup command.

Do you have any specific suggestions for the problem where logging into AdminCP keeps dumping me back to the AdminCP screen?

That usually either means that your user is not an Admin or you are blocking cookies.

I found the solution. I had to use tools.php to reset the cookie domain. It was using the site's domain for the cookie, which wasn't the same as what I was running in my vm.

          Thanks for the leads.

              Read this page, first: http://kb.siteground.com/article/I_c...dmin_area.html

Then, after you've loaded the tools.php script, there should be a setting for clearing the cookies or the domain associated with the cookies. I'm pretty sure that's the option that I used. If it doesn't work, please post a screen shot of the tool.php screen and I'll have another look to see what I might've done to solve the problem.
