Help! My forum is crashed. I am getting an error message of "Invalid SQL"

I am trying to run a "repair/optimize tables" query and it's been running for almost an hour. IS it even still running? Normally this maintennance procedure takes about 30 seconds. Although I normally do this procedure through my PHP section on my server and not through the admin CP of VBulletin. Could that be the culprit? Last time I did this directly through the VBulletin CP was a few months ago. I do it on the server weekly.

What is causing this and what should I do to try and repair it?

And please try and explain it in a simple and easy to follow manner, keeping the technical mumbo jumbo to a minimum. I am not an expert in coding (or software for that matter).

What is the full error? It should include the actual query, the script and the referrer.
