  • GD Enable/compile question

I have very little experience with managing my server and would like to know how to either complie or enable GD.

I did a locate GD2 at the root level and received the following response from that command:

    Code:
    [email protected] [~]# locate gd2
    /home/cpeasyapache/src/php-5.2.8/ext/gd/libgd/gd2copypal.c
    /home/cpeasyapache/src/php-5.2.8/ext/gd/libgd/gd2time.c
    /home/cpeasyapache/src/php-5.2.8/ext/gd/libgd/gd2topng.c
    /home/cpeasyapache/src/php-5.2.8/ext/gd/libgd/gd_gd2.c
    /home/cpeasyapache/src/php-5.2.8/ext/gd/libgd/pngtogd2.c
    /home/cpeasyapache/src/php-5.2.8/ext/gd/tests/createfromgd2.phpt
    /home/cpeasyapache/src/php-5.2.8/ext/gd/tests/src.gd2
    /usr/bin/gd2copypal
    /usr/bin/gd2togif
    /usr/bin/gd2topng
    /usr/bin/giftogd2
    /usr/bin/pngtogd2
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2copypal
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2copypal.c
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2copypal.o
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2time
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2time.c
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2time.o
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2topng
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2topng.c
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd2topng.o
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd_gd2.c
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/gd_gd2.o
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/pngtogd2
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/pngtogd2.c
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/pngtogd2.o
    /usr/local/cpanel/src/3rdparty/gpl/gd-1.8.4/test/gdtest.gd2
Does this mean GD is installed just not working? If so, how do I get it working?

    Thanks in advance

Best way to tell is to look at your phpinfo page.

I checked phpinfo and there is NO reference to GD so I am wondering if GD is actually installed on the server and it's just a matter of turning it on or there is more to it then that.

I asked my provider this question and they responded with:

If you require us to enable GD/Image Magick on your current server managed service fees would be necessary as our Administrators would need to make manual adjustments to the server. The charge for this request would be $50.00 through Managed Services.
So, I don't know if I can turn it on myself with help or I have to pay them $50.00?

You have to have root access to the server to do this and you would need to recompile or reinstall PHP with full GD and Freetype 2 support.

It's a fully dedicated server (not shared or vps) running cpanel but no matter, I went ahead and paid the 50 bucks.
