  • Smiliebox missing in firefox

    Some users are reporting that the smilies box is not showing up. I have found that this is only a problem for users who are browsing with FireFox. IE and Safari are working fine.

    The post icons and tags boxes are missing as well.

    Any suggestions, or know problems?

    I am running 3.7.4

    FF works fine for me with the default vB 3.7.4 templates and code.

    To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

    Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

    [Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

    Next, disable all plugins.

    Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

    define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

    Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Have those users change to that style and try again.

      Fire Fox Bug?

      I'm having the same problem... I think it started with the FireFox 3.0.4 update.

      Very annoying, even banners .gif images disappear off and on.
      Keep us updated if you figure out a fix [I will also].

        OK, I have the same situation with one person running FF.
        I had him clear his cache, refresh the screen.
        Started after installing 3.7.5.
