  • .swf not showing up

    This may be out of the scope of this board but I'm desperate for help. I had an swf banner on my vBulletin site that worked great for many years. I've recently upgraded to ActionScript 3.0 and rebuilt the banner. But now, the banner doesn't show up, it's just a grey box. However, when you go to the direct link to the banner it shows up fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    The problem: Note the grey box under $navbar
    The direct link that works

    Here's the code I'm using in my FORUMHOME sheet right under $navbar
    PHP Code:
    <!-- Begin Image Banner -->
    <if
    condition="THIS_SCRIPT == index">
    <
    table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="900" {tableinvisibleextraalign="center">
      <
    tr><td>

        <
    object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" width="900" height="100" id="banner" align="middle">
        <
    param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
        <
    param name="allowFullScreen" value="false" />
        <
    param name="movie" value="banner.swf" />
            <
    param name="quality" value="high" />
            <
    param name="wmode" value="opaque">
            <
    param name="menu" value="false">
            <
    param name="bgcolor" value="#666666" />
    <
    embed src="banner.swf" quality="high" wmode="opaque" menu="false" bgcolor="#666666" width="900" height="100" name="banner" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
        </
    object>
    </
    td></tr
    Thanks for your help.

    When I place that code in its own page the .swf shows just fine. It's almost as if something with vBulletin is interfering.

      Try this...
      Code:
      <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" width="900" height="100" id="banner" align="middle">
          <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
          <param name="allowFullScreen" value="false" />
          <param name="movie" value="http://newsartists.org/forums/imagebanners/banner.swf" />
              <param name="quality" value="high" />
              <param name="wmode" value="opaque">
              <param name="menu" value="false">
              <param name="bgcolor" value="#666666" />
          <embed src="banner.swf" quality="high" wmode="opaque" menu="false" bgcolor="#666666" width="900" height="100" name="banner" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
      </object>

        Thanks Jose. Still nothing showing. I'm just flummoxed on why it'll show up on a plain html page but not in the vBulletin page. Here's the code as it stands tonight...

        PHP Code:
        <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" width="900" height="100" id="banner" align="middle">
            <
        param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
            <
        param name="allowFullScreen" value="false" />
            <
        param name="movie" value="http://newsartists.org/imagebanners/banner.swf" />
                <
        param name="quality" value="high" />
                <
        param name="wmode" value="opaque">
                <
        param name="menu" value="false">
                <
        param name="bgcolor" value="#666666" />
        <
        embed src="http://newsartists.org/imagebanners/banner.swf" quality="high" wmode="opaque" menu="false" bgcolor="#666666" width="900" height="100" name="banner" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
            </
        object

          I have added that code in post #3 into template 'ad_navbar_below' and it does seem to display properly. I do not know what else it maybe other then you might clear out browser cache.

          I have no trouble in making it work on test site....

            Thanks again Jose. That just makes it all the more frustrating! I've tried it on four different Macs and three different PCs and none of them work for me. Most of those machines had never been to the site before. Those that did, I cleared their cache.

            Could it be as simple as changing the file name? At this point, I'll try anything.

            Again, thanks for your time.

              Example: Try the code that I have in post number 3...

              I still am able to display it using your site and edit from temp. files from my computer to produce flash banner.

              Temporary (will delete soon) See attachment.

                I'm now using the same code from post #3 with still no joy on three different machines.

                I've tried putting up a different version with a new name and changing the link to that new version. That didn't work either.

                But the direct link still works fine.

                Out of desperation, can you think of a nice, out-of-the-way vBulletin template I can paste it into to see if it'll show somewhere else?

                Regardless, thanks for your time.

                  Did you upgrade Adobe Flash? I am running Internet Explorer 7, Windows Xp and unable to help any further. Maybe someone else can visit the site and see if they are able to view the banner.

                  You can post the code in any of the 'Ad Location Templates' and or FORUMHOME, postbit / legacy, forumdisplay and so on. You should be able to see this flash banner. Unless you are able to block it...

                    Yeah. I've been running player 10 for about a week. Two machines with 9 don't work either.

                    It's my first AS 3 project and I was really looking forward to having it work. Guess my first one will have to be the next one!

                    Anyway, I sure appreciate your time. I bet I have the old one around here somewhere and I'll trot it out tomorrow night just in case someone else stumbles along tomorrow with an idea.

                    Thanks again.

                      Figured it out.

                      The images were being loaded from an XML file. After installing the debugger version of Flash I discovered a sandbox error. I updated my crossdoain.xml file and everything works fine now.

                      I found the solution here.

                      Thanks for everyone's help.
