  • I want to start my vb from scratch

    Hi

    I have vbulletin installed with alot of mods, alot of custom skins, I am not sure if the upgrades I did went correctly.. So what I want to do is just start my forum from scratch (but keep the users, posts, threads, ect!)

    How is the easiest - safest way of doing this?

    There is no procedure for that. Normally you would manually remove your customizations.

    There are 4 kinds of hacks:
    1. File hacks. These can be removed by uploading the original files from the zip file.
    2. Plugins & Products. These can be disabled / removed in your Admin CP:

      Admin CP -> Plugins & Products -> Product Manager -> Uninstall (in each product menu)

      Admin CP -> Plugins & Products -> Plugin Manager

      ...or by adding this line to the includes/config.php file:

      Code:
      define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);
    3. Template hacks. These can be removed by reverting the customized templates in your:

      Admin CP -> Styles & Templates -> Style Manager -> Revert All Templates (in the menu)
    4. Database hacks. You need to use a program like phpmyadmin to browse your database and remove custom tables and fields.

      As for the upgrade... make sure you completed the upgrade. Make sure you:

      1) Uploaded all of the new files, overwriting the old files. (images directory is optional)

      2) Ran the "install/upgrade.php" script in your browser.

        I was told not to do it this way, but I did and it worked so far. I couldnt spend 36 hours waiting on IMPEX so.

        Do a new install, and create a new database of course.

        Code:
        #!/bin/bash

        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/usergroup.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/userfield.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/usertextfield.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/user.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/forum.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/thread.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/post.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/poll.* /mysql/<new_db>/
        cp -fvr /mysql/<old_db>/stat.* /mysql/<new_db>/

        echo "done"
        exit 0
        Worked like a charm. Took me all of 10 min.

            Not sure. You wanted a clean install right? So you will have to redo any mods you had done on your other board.

              This page will show outdated templates:

              Admin CP -> Styles & Templates -> Find Updated Templates
