No, I think you should be able to set it, and then update the category template to use these images (just like the sub forum (or normal forums) would.

I have no experience with this, sorry .. if it turns out to be impossible because it's hard coded to onliy work on those specific templates.

    Thanks for the response.

But I was referring to little icons next to each forum -- not the status icons.

Basically, I made this thread in case you didn't misunderstand the suggestion in the link I posted. However, now that it is clear that you did misunderstand the suggestion thus this feature not being present, you can disregard this thread

Forum Status images are usually shown alongside the forum in a forum listings to indicate the read status.

This prefix must only contain alphanumerical characters, though the following are also allowed - _ / ., a folder name is also acceptable to be placed within the status icon directory.

The following images are currently in use for status icons, you will need to create images with the specified prefix to match.
    • forum_link.gif
    • forum_new.gif
    • forum_new_lock.gif
    • forum_old.gif
    • forum_old_lock.gif

Admin CP > Forums & Mods > Forum Manager > Prefix for Forum Status Images (This prefix will be used on status image filenames for a forum, it can only contain A-Z, 0-9, -, _, . and /)

How can we add an icon or little image next to each forum?

I.e. for a chit-chat forum, we could have a speech bubble image.

Floris stated that it's possible, in this thread: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64514
widgetinstance 262 (Related Topics) skipped due to lack of content & hide_module_if_empty option.
