    Help!!! Please!

And all seems to have gone well...Sort of! I have completed the upgrade to 3.7.2 Patch 1 and I then turned the forums back on.

I went to post a message to say tell my members that the upgrade was successful and that we were back, but I now can't post a message longer than 1 character. I have gone throug the Admin CP, but I can't see where an option was changed??

Also I have had some error emails through since the upgrade which I can't understand, except there is a problem with the database now?? I prepared my files for upload according to the VBulletin manual and copied all settings from the previous installation of the forum software. -

There is no 'postid' field in the 3.7.2 moderation table. This is from an old file or an add-on.

To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

    Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

    define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?

      Thanks Steve, you're a star.

I ran the diagnosic and it looks as though pretty much all the files aren't up to date. I am using WSFTP Pro and it is prompting to overwrite files, but it obviously isn't doing it as I have now tried re-uploading the upgrade files several times for both my forums.

Am I better off just deleting what is saved on my domain and starting from scratch here? I just don't get why this isn't working.

This is what is says in the manual -

the second method involves deleting all the old files and directories, and then uploading the new scripts.
I just wanted to make sure that will be ok?

If you delete the files, make sure you have a backup of your includes/config.php file and any custom graphics.

          Hi,

          Me again.

I have tried to delete the directory on the domain. It tells me it is deleted. Yet everytime I re-create the directory it is filled with the old files. Then when I upload the installation files that I downloaded, I have the same problem as before. I run the upgrade script and when I diagnose all the files are still suspect.

          What am I missing here?

Honestly I do not see how that is possible at all. A new directory cannot resurrect files out of nowhere when it is created. My best guess is that you really aren't deleting that directory.

              Lu,

Do you have shell access to your host, or are you limited to some sort of control panel?

                Hi (again),

I am getting seriously down about all this. I never normally have these kinds of problems.

I have right-clicked on the directory of my forum and pressed delete. Then watched in the progress box as the FTP client deletes the files and folders in the directory. Then I re-upload the files from my computer to a new directory of the same name. When I right click on the directory it tells me that it is a recent upload.

Then I run the diagnostic in the Admin CP and it tells me the files are incorrect.

Is there someone who can fix this for me because I have followed your instructions and it isn't making any difference.

Prax - I am not sure what you mean exactly, but I FTP into my site directly, not through a CP.

Oh and sorry for that. I have been posting regular updates on the 'forum closed' screen so there is really no need for that.

Just to say I've opened a support ticket about this issue as well.

Its only because she knows I've been using vBulletin for far too many years

Apologies in advance if this seems patronising

By shell access I mean being able to use SSH or Telnet to access your hosting account, effectively giving you command line access akin to the windows command prompt.

Also, have you tried doing it using the simple windows ftp client from the windows command prompt?

I understand you have a pre-upgrade backup of your database. You could consider restoring it and trying to upgrade process again. Having noticed your other thread regarding connection problems I wonder if something un-noticed went wrong whilst you were running the upgrade scripts.

Also, you could consider uploading the files into a completely different directory and seeing where you go from there

Ah ok that's cool. I was just worried in case random people you didn't know where messaging you!

I am going to try uploading to a different directory via my FTP client and seeing where that takes me.

Tech support have been in touch and said that they cannot see the same error messages I am seeing, so I have just sent them screenshots of what I am seeing. I've dumped my temp. internet files etc. just to be sure I am not seeing old info.

If I have to restore the database I will need to get in touch with my host tomorrow as they will have to do it for me as there is a 2MB batch limit via PHPMyAdmin. So unless I want to divide the database into little chunks and restore it, it will be much easier for them to do so.

Will let you know how I get on with the installation on the new dir.

I am just watching the upload process on the FTP client to the new dir. and I am currently getting lots of No socket messages, as well as port failed.

I haven't tried the simple FTP client via Windows, but that is another thing to try, thanks!

Just to let you know that everything is fine now. I think the issues I had was the files which I uploaded taking forever and a day to upload on the server.

Thanks for all your help and support!
