A few installation issues dealing with godaddy

Hello.

I’ve read a couple of pages before I posted this but I still feel that I need some help more less a few questions answered.

I went through godaddy.com for my domain. I purchased their Linux hosting package. Now in the manual provided by vBulletin, I came to the config.php (which seems to be getting a lot of people). I contact godaddy.com for some tech support. Now funny thing is, is that they are not familiar with vBulletin so he could only help me so far. Thankfully, I found the thread about godaddy.com on page 2. I’ve followed those steps.

On GoDaddy to get your server name you would do this.

1) Login to you GoDaddy Account and choose My Hosting Accounts from the dropdown.

2) Open your domain name.

3) Click on Databases.

4) On the list of databases there should be a Pencil Icon on the right of each of them. Click on it and you'll get a popup window.

5) Look for "Server Name" or "Host Name" (I forget which is is). It will list what server your MySQL database is on. It will never be localhost for GoDaddy. It will always be something like PXXXmysql.secureserver.net.

The port number will remain the default. If you have multiple databases on a single GoDaddy account, each one can be on a different MySQL server. If you change the password on your GoDaddy database and it is currently empty then it can be moved from one MySQL server to another.

So here is my question. Every time that I need to re-edit my config.php (that’s also how it’s saved) do I need to remove it from my server and upload it when done?
Also, I have the name of my data base, but when it says username and password, the guy on tech support said to put anything in. Should I be putting the username and password to access my database?

Again, just stuck up on a few small bumps and any help or tips would be greatly appreciated seeing as this is a learning experience for me being it my first website.

Hi Logan,

When you need to edit your config.php file, you do need to download it from your server, edit it on your computer, and then re-upload the updated version.

As far as the database goes:
You need to create an SQL Database. When you do, you need to assign a user with full permissions to that database.

In the config.php file, you enter the NAME AND PASSWORD of the user you assigned to the database (in the appropriate fields) along with the Database Name (in the appropriate field).

Be sure to enter all other information in the config.php file following all instructions.
