New to VB with a couple questions

    Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and new to VB. So far I've been able to fix a server issue, run a passing test script, configure and upload my newly purchased VB all without a hitch. (at least that I couldn't fix) I think that's pretty good since I did not have a clue what I was doing. Now I'm just working on my settings and I'll be good to go.

I do have a couple questions though that I'm hoping someone can answer for me...

    1. We are going to have all of our users register in order to post to the board which will be free. However, we want to have a classifieds section that will be fee based to post in that section. Is that possible? Can we have free registration for the whole board yet have one section charge a fee to post? If so, can someone kindly tell me how to do this?

    2. I have seen some VB boards with ad banners on them. We would like to sell space like that on our board. How do you go about puttin things like banners, graphics, menus and such around the outside of your board? Is it basically building a web page around your board?

Any help anyone can give me on these 2 questions, or point me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

    Kimberly

    Hello

    1) You can create a new usergroup (for this example, lets call it "Upgraded Members") and only give them permissions to post in the Classifieds forum.
Then, create a Paid Subscription, and choose "Upgraded Members" to be the group that buyers are moved to. Set the subscription price at however much you wish to charge the users.
This is completely automatic, so when a user purchases the subscription, they are automatically moved to the "Upgraded Users" group and thus have permissions to post.
    vBulletin Manual: Paid Subscriptions

    2) You can either use the vBulletin Ad Location Templates if they suit your needs, or find a modification at vBulletin.org such as this one (which does work on 3.7).
    Regards,
    Nick

Thank you for your reply Nick

      1. I did read that section of the user manual but was a little confused with it. Thank you for clearing it up for me. That is exactly what I am looking to do.

      2. I think this is the part that is going to give me fits because I have never worked with this kind of stuff before. What I am looking to do is something like this page...

I will look at the links you provided and see what I can find.

      Thanks again for your help

        2) It appears they did all that by hand (which isn't exactly too hard).
However, I forgot to mention earlier, that all inquiries regarding customization of vBulletin code shall be asked at www.vbulletin.org. Ask there and you should get some extensive help.

        Regards,
        Nick

I apologize if I had the wrong place to post my question. I didn't know about the other board but I will be sure to head over there.

I am learning all kinds of new stuff since I got VB and while I like to learn, this PHP, SQL and whatever other 3 letters I run across is really confusing me but I will get it sooner or later.

Thanks for the info and the link. I really do appreciate it
