  • Advice on Album Picture Storage Type

    1) If I feel that my users photo albums will grow large should I be storing the images in the file system or database?

    2) If in the file system, if my forum is www/forum, what is an example of the file path that I should use? Would it be above www?

    3) If in the file system, should the full picture path and thumbnail path be in different directories?

    4) If in the file system, is the URL to thumbnails complete with the http://www.... of a shorter URL?

    1) File system reduces load on the database

    2) Best for the main images is above www

    3) I've done it that way and found it best

    4) It's relative to the main forum directory.

I'd also double check that you have permissions set to 777 when doing it, as I had some issues this week with the folder not having the right permissions. Check there first if you have troubles getting images to upload.

I guess I still need examples. I'm not good on paths.

        I've lost my thumbnails.

If my forum is at home/account/www/forum

        My images are home/account/images

        My thumbnails are home/account/thumbs

What do I need to enter in the URL to Thumbnails field?

Just as a note, there is no reason you can't put it below WWW.

            I have mine in */forums/albumimages.

Simply upload a blank index.html file and if people try to access it, they will just get a white screen
