  • Changing hosts.. need help with something

The host that i am on right now is having some trouble with their database server rebooting every 30 or so minutes. I get errors saying "Server shutdown in progress" and "Unable to connect to MySQL database"

Anyway's i have sent them support tickets 3 or 4 times on this problem and they always respond back saying the server is fine

Anyway's i cannot backup my whole database because the posts table is so big that it keeps timing out and the (i think) it's a word table that doesnt import without errors as well.

Anyway's my question is.. Is it possible to reinstall the forum (fresh install)
and then re-upload just the tables that have the members and there passwords? If so then what tables should i import?

I want to keep all 7000+ members and im at the point to where i can care less about starting again with no posts..

    thanks,

    Will

No, you cannot reinstall then reimport the old tables. Even if you did this successfully (which is not likely) you would still have the same problems.

You really need to get away from that host as fast as you can. Instructions for moving servers are in the online manual here:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/moving_servers

Note: The only reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeouts errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here:

    Backup:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup

    Restore:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

P.S. If you do not have telnet or SSH access, some people have reported success with these scripts:

    MySQLDumper:
    http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

    MySQLHotxcopy:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...t=mysqlhotcopy

    Bigdump (restore only):
