    Hi All,
What about removing the version number from below statement in footer ?
    Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.7.1

    and make it :
    Powered by vBulletin®

    Is it allowed ?

My intention is to make sure automatic bots Google searching for forums using vB 3.7.1 should not be able to find it.

    1) What do you think about this ?
    2) If it is allowed, which file do I need to edit this text ?

To remove the vB version number, edit the 'powered_by_vbulletin' phrase and replace this:

    Powered by: vBulletin Version {1}<br />Copyright &copy;2000 - {2}, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

    With this:

    Powered by: vBulletin <br />Copyright &copy;2000 - {2}, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

Note: To edit a phrase, place the new phrase in the available language text boxes.

While the idea will probably work, you are probably too late in implementing it. Once your pages have been scanned by the search bots (the legitimate ones) and they have been stored in the search engines of what ever search bots indexed your site, they are going to be there for a long time. When a pre-spammer does their inital search for all vBulletin 3.7 sites, it doesn't matter what your pages looks like at this very moment, your site URL will still come up in the search. If you were to make the change, then change your URL, then it wouldn't come up with the 3.7 version on it.

Like they say... You can run but you can't hide once you have been cached.

True ! But I just set my website up 1 week before and is not yet live
I don't think any search engine will index it in 1 week, that too with just 1 visitor (myself).

Before going live, I am just checking every possible setting and make sure it's secure with the help of already experienced people in this forum.

I know no one is really 100 % secure when they are online, but I am trying my best

I don't see how removing the version number in the footer will secure anything. First, the page source will probably still show it. Second, if a hacker wants to get in they'll probably try all the old methods anyway, hoping it might work.

It's not that it will completely secure...
Just trying the least possibility as well.

Remove this from the headinclude template:

                  <meta name="generator" content="vBulletin $vboptions[templateversion]" />

                    Sorry for hijacking this thread.

                    I edited the phrase $vbphrase[powered_by_vbulletin],

                    To this <img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/copyright.png" />

But instead of retriving $stylevar[imgdir_misc] path. vbulletin display the code as <img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/copyright.png" />.

My question, Is it possible to have $stylevar[imgdir_misc] in "$vbphrase[powered_by_vbulletin]" phrase?

The copyright image that i am going to use.

That's exactly what you have it set to.

If you need further help please start your own thread with all the relevant details. Thank you.

That is generated in the source code. You would have to modify the source code to change this.
