  • Default Avatars in Postbit and Navbar?

I'm trying to make a few things to happen:
    • Every user be assigned a Default Avatar (unless they choose their own avatar)
    • The Default Avatar or the custom avatar should appear in the postbit.
    • The Default Avatar should also appear in the Navbar for Guests and for Users, unless they have chosen their own avatar
    • The Default Avatar should also appear in every other avatar location (such as the profile, memberlist, etc.) if no custom avatar is selected

I've read and re-read every post here (and at vbulletin.org) about default avatars, avatars in the postbit, and avatars in the navbar and elsewhere. So far, I haven't been able to make suggested template edits or mods work to do the above. Am I mistaken, or does vBulletin not have a consistent/global "hook" to pull in an avatar regardless of template/location, or at least conditionals that can make all of the above happen? The $post[avatarurl] conditional for the postbit doesn't apply to the navbar, for example.

Does anyone have any suggestions on making any/all of the above work? Are there plans in future versions of vBulletin to enable a default avatar? (That sure would make all these problems go away.)

    Appreciate any help/info,
    jca

I know there is an addon for this on www.vbulletin.org. Installing an addon would be easier than editing all relevant templates to change all instances of user avatars. I recommend you search / ask over on www.vbulletin.org.

Thanks for the suggestion. Have tried all the mods and template edits I can find, but haven't found the right combination yet.

Do you know if there are plans to make a Default Avatar an option in vBulletin 4.0?

I am not aware of any plans to add this feature. It is commonly requested so it might be included in the next version.
