  • Username Display Error

    http://xenostar.net/forums/showthread.php?p=312#post312

    Take a look at the postbit section, the user Kyu! seems to be causing a table error in the postbit. The problem is, there appears to be some white space between the two tables that contain the username. None of the other usernames seem to have this problem, as the tables render correctly, just Kyu!, for some reason. Also, this problem only seems to occur in IE and not Firefox.

    Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I've heavily modified my postbit, however I believe the code to be correct, just take a look in the page's source.

    I really have no idea what could be causing the irregularity, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Try removing this highlighted code.

    Code:
    /* ***** styling for 'big' usernames on postbit etc. ***** */
    .bigusername {
    	font-family: Impact;
    	font-style: italic;
    	[B][COLOR="Red"]font-weight: none;[/COLOR][/B]
    	font-size: 14pt;
    	color: #FFFFFF;
    	text-transform: uppercase;
    }

      Hmm, still didn't seem to work. When I was in IE I clocked the "Error on page" icon in the lower left hand corner of the screen. It gave me this information:

      Line 316:
      Char: 24
      Error: 'null' is not null or an object
      Code: 0
      URL: http://xenostar.net/forums/showthread.php?p=372#post372

      Note entirely sure...
      "You forgot about my trap card!"
      "Oh no!!"
      "Oh yes, and wait till you hear about it's special ability!"

        This is what I get in Firefox... maybe someone will give you the answer... Do you see this in unmodified vBulletin style ( most likely not ). You might have to ask the author of that style to go though the template code and see what is causing it to break it in those browsers.

        Browser is AJAX compatiblevbulletin_global.... (line 854)
        Code:
        console.info("Browser is%s AJAX compatible", AJAX_Compatible ? "" : " NOT");
        vBmenu :: System Activated
        System Init Firedvbulletin_global.... (line 1860)
        Code:
         console.info("System Init Fired");
        fetch_object("currentPost") has no properties
        onload(load ).....showthread.php (line 1)

        [Break on this error]
        Code:
        <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
        showthread.php (line 1)

          This is the code in my custom template (that I made) that surrounds and displays the username:

          PHP Code:
          <td width="16px"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/ui_front.gif" alt="" /></td>
          <
          td width="184px" align="left" valign="middle" background="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/ui_bg.gif"><div id="postmenu_$post[postid]"><if condition="$show['profile']"><a href="member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$post[userid]"></a><span class="bigusername">$post[musername]</span><script type="text/javascript"vbmenu_register("postmenu_$post[postid]"true); </script><else /><span class="bigusername">$post[musername]</span></if></div></td
          I just can't, for the life of me, figure out why this problem is being caused. I don't have the username surrounded in the <a> link tag because it was causing the link colors of the usernames to be the same as in the body css property, rather than the bigusername property. Even when I made a .bigusername a { color:#FFF } it still wouldn't change the link color, so the only solution was to make the usernames as text, then make the table cell the link itself.

          Hopefully someone can take a look at that snippet and see if there is a problem.
