  • Multiple Forums/Sites/Domain - One Common User Database

Any idea on how to accomplish this?

The following 4 sites have one common user base:
    http://www.e90post.com/forums
    http://www.m3post.com/forums
    http://www.zpost.com/forums
    http://www.xbimmers.com/forums

I'd like to do the same exact thing.. i.e. one shared userbase amongst multiple sites.
    • Log into one of the sites, and you can go to the others without loosing your session
    • Member List displays the combined Userbase
    • Users can post on any of the forums.

    Any ideas?

That is certainly possible, but it can be complicated and requires custom code. You might find something for this on www.vbulletin.org. Otherwise you will need to code it yourself or hire some one to do it. The "Requests For Paid Services" forum might be of use:

I'm a programmer by trade. so the coding aspect isn't an issue..

the how - is what I'm after.

and I think I've found the answer.

That site is using one common "master" forum = http://www.bimmerpost.com/forums

Then with the help of extensive template modifications, the child subforums act similar to the parent forum because of the template modifications and each having it's own individual style and domain name.

      does that sound accurate?

That is a smart way to do it. He is cleverly partitioning the forum into different sections which appear independent and already share the same userbase. Note that multiple licenses are still required for that setup:

Another example http://diendan.zing.vn/ they have a dozen forums with the same user db (same stats).

Moreover, when you search in a forum, the results are inclusively in that forum, even with a search for user's post. And the same for global moderators.

A really big forum (Alexa rank 350, of course with other parts). Intensive modification can help?

It's not easy. I've been pondering this for many months now. "J" you should call me and I'll tell you how I plan to do it.

You need to pursue this over at www.vbulletin.org.

X-Vert, in particular you'll want to take a look vB Cerberus.

It was released by the IB "skunkworks" crew, is totally unsupported, and is a bit rough around the edges yet but is starting to shape up. Just be sure to read the entire thread before trying to configure it.
