  • Help...my forum threads are all out of order!

Hi, this is not a major problem I'm sure. But, it's driving me nuts!

When I click on a forum, the threads are all out of date order. I would like it to be the one with the newest reply on top. I have to manually make this happen everytime I'm in the forums.

Also, when I do click on a thread, the posts are all newest first, which I don't want.

And, I was playing around with settings and queries. Please let me know what I should do to make this all correct.

    TIA!

    Sam

For the forumdisplay order, set these for each forum:

Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Manager -> Edit Forum -> Default Sort Order

Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Manager -> Edit Forum -> Default Sort Field

As for the post order within threads... that is a user preference:

User CP -> Edit Options -> Thread Display Mode

You can set the default for new registrations in your:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Registration Options -> Default Registration Options

You can mass update the preferences of exsiting users in your:

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Execute SQL Query

There is a menu with predefined queries. You must have permission to execute queries in your includes/config.php file:

    Code:
//	****** USERS WITH QUERY RUNNING PERMISSIONS ******
//	The users specified here will be allowed to run queries from the control panel.
//	See the above entries for more information on the format.
//	Please note that the ability to run queries is quite powerful. You may wish
//	to remove all user IDs from this list for security reasons.
    $config['SpecialUsers']['canrunqueries'] = '';

Thank you! Which query do I run to set everyone's to the default so that it shows the most recent thread on top decending?

      I appreciate it!

        Run these queries:

        Code:
        UPDATE forum
        SET defaultsortorder = 'desc'
        Code:
        UPDATE forum
        SET defaultsortfield = 'lastpost'
Then you will need to update your forum info:

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Update Counters
