  • posts and entire threads dissapearing...

every few hours or days, several posts or entire threads will dissapear.

you can see the link to the thread, but you get "invalid thread" or you open the thread, and there appears to be no posts, but there were several posts counted on the post counter.

sometimes the thread is still there, and just chunks of the thread are missing, such as the first 20 or so posts...

i have no idea even where to begin???

i set up a test user if anyone cares to investigate firsthand...

    user: testuser
    pw: testpassword

you dont have admin or mod privies, so dont bother trying... you DO have access to about 90% of the site... more than enough to get the gist of what is going on.

i'd appreciate any and all feedback on this... none of us have any idea where or what the problem is.

    thanks!

There is nothing in the default vB code that would cause this. Are you willing to remove your add-ons and restore the original vB code?

i think the only add-on we have is the garage... which is rarely used.

and vbadvanced (home page content manager).

do you think it is an add on? or could it be something on the SQL side?

To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

        Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

        define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?
