Issues with restoring a backup

Okay, heres the deal. One of our co-owners pulled the plug on our forum so it's gone. Fortunately we have a backed up file from a few days before.

Okay, I tried to follow all directions. I contacted my host and had them upload the backup to overwrite my mysql database 'forums.' Okay with that all said and done, I go install the board on my server using the 'forums' database. All goes well but I look on the site and theres nothing from the backup, it's like a brand new board again.

What have I done wrong? What do I need to do to make the back up work?

Don't run install! That empties the database.

Restore the db, upload the vB files and edit config.php with the correct db info. If the database backup is good, that is all you'll need to do.
