How Do I Add People To Private Usergroups?

I hate asking this question but I didn't find anything in the manual that mentions how to join a private group. Does the admin have to go to each and every profile and click on the checkbox? Is there an easier way?

If you make it "joinable" and wait for users request to be included, you will be able to do it easy by approving them.
